Vagina Pearls, Douching and Soaking

So I got into it with a WhatsApp vendor some days ago over the weirdest thing. VAGINA PEARLS. The vendor maintained that every woman must use some special wash or something to get that fresh feeling. I know for a fact that the vagina is self cleaning industry. I call ‘her’ an industry because she does the most, she is like a never stopping locomotive that runs per cycle, Ovulation – Mensuration – Safe period (which is not really safe because your other ovary could be ready for fertilization and then bang! bong! boom! pregnancy has hit you like a ton of bricks) – Ovulation again. She usually does not need help getting clean unless you’ve been rolling around in the mud which I doubt anyone does with their V.

As a vagina owning female, I have never used anything but my bathing soap and water to wash my privates because duh! it’s a really sensitive area, no point complicating my already complicated privates. So in true curious cat fashion I started researching the pros and cons of these vagina washes and I asked some of my friends that use them to share their experiences and reasons.

Most of them said besides feeling fresher, they use it to get rid of unpleasant odors, wash away menstrual blood after their period and to make the vagina walls tighter.

Yet, health experts say these washes and pearls are not effective for any of these purposes. They also warn that it can actually increase the risk of infections, pregnancy complications, and other health problems.

I also learnt about a new thing called douching. A lot is happening out there that I didn’t know about. Y’all be doing the most. Vinegar to wash your private kitty. Really??? In the words of one of my favorite writers, Luvvie Ajayi, I’m judging you and side eyeing you for putting yourself through this.

What Is Douching?

The word ”douche” is French for ”wash” or ”soak.” It is a method to wash out the vagina, usually with a mixture of water and vinegar. Some contain antiseptic and fragrances. Douches that are sold online these days and lots of women are on some DIY stuff, outchea doing it themselves. A douche comes in a bottle or bag and is sprayed through a tube upward into the vagina.


Some women say douching makes them feel cleaner. There is, though, very little scientific evidence of benefit from douching.


I have found out that the risks of douching, pearling and soaking far outweigh the good!!! Can you hear me, sister in the back that has plans to soak her V in vinegar?

Vaginal infections (bacterial vaginosis).

The whole process upsets the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina (called vagina flora). These changes make the environment more favorable for the growth of bacteria that cause infection. Studies have found that women who stopped douching were less likely to have bacterial vaginosis. Having bacterial vaginosis can increase the risk of pre-term labor and sexually transmitted infections, do you hear that, lil Miss/ Mrs “I have a d**k appointment and I need to feel fresh”

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).

PID is an infection of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and/or ovaries. Research has found that women who douche may have a 73% higher risk of getting PID.

Pregnancy complications.

Women who do these more than once a week have more difficulty getting pregnant than those who don’t douche. They may also increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy by as much as 76%. With an ectopic pregnancy, the embryo implants outside the uterus. The more a woman douches, the greater the risk of having an ectopic pregnancy.

Cervical cancer .

Douching, pearling and soaking at least once a week has been linked to a possible increased chance of developing cervical cancer.

Its okay to have some vaginal odor, it’s absolutely normal. Our little kitty wasn’t made to smell like flowers and candies. However, if you notice a very strong odor, it could be a sign of infection. The acidity of the vagina will naturally control bacteria, and simply washing the vagina with warm water and mild soap is enough to keep clean.

Stop stressing about the smell of your Veejajay. You smell like what you eat. If you are so bothered about the smell, eat fruits, lots of fruits. Fresh food help your vagina essence a lot. Go on a pineapple and date binge. Pineapples, dates, tiger nuts and a lot of other fresh produce have the ability to tighten your vagina wall and give it that nice smell you are looking for.

So with these little points if mine, I hope I have been able to convince and not confuse you about vagina washes.
