Atiku is a Cameroonian, not a Nigerian – APC Tells Tribunal

The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has filed a motion at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja saying the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has no right to challenge the result of the election as he was not a Nigerian.

According to reports, the APC said Atiku’s case lacked merit as he was a Cameroonian and therefore has no right to stand for election.

The lead counsel, Lateef Fagbemi faulted the candidacy of Atiku saying he was ineligible to participate in the election in the first instance.

He said Atiku was born on November 25, 1946, in Jada, Adamawa, in Northern Cameroon and is, therefore, a citizen of Cameroon and not a Nigerian by birth.

Channels TV reports that according to the party, “while Northern Cameroon preferred a union with Nigeria, Southern Cameroon chose alignment with the mother country and that it was as a result of the plebiscite that Northern Cameroon, which included Adamawa, became a part of Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, Atiku replied the campaign office of President Muhammadu Buhari over claims that he should be in prison if the system was working well in Nigeria.

Atiku, Nigeria’s former vice president, also dismissed as ‘total fabrication’ the allegation by the Buhari campaign office that he spent $30,000 to hire a US lobby group to persuade the US Congress to stop the inauguration of President Buhari.
