Comedian, Zelensky Wins Ukraine’s Presidential Election

Ukrainian comedian and filmmaker, Volodymyr Zelensky has emerged victorious in the country’s presidential election.

Zelensky won the 2019 Ukrainian presidential election with more than 70% of the votes, defeating incumbent Petro Poroshenko.

Mr Poroshenko has admitted that he has lost but has said he will not bidding politics farewell anytime soon.

It should be noted that Ukraine’s president commands great control over the security, defence and foreign policy of the country.

“I will never let you down,” Mr Zelensky told his supporters on Sunday, April 21.

He said that while he is not officially the country’s president yet, he is glad to tell them what happened shows that everything is possible.

He said: “While I am not formally president yet, as a citizen of Ukraine I can tell all post-Soviet countries: ‘Look at us! Everything is possible!’”

If the polls are correct, Zelensky will be the country’s president for the next five years.

In an interesting turn of event, Poroshenko, who has been in power since 2014, only got 25% of the vote.

It should also be recalled that Poroshenko was elected after an uprising removed the country’s previous, pro-Russian administration.

The comedian-soon-to-be president, Zelensky, 41, is best known in the country for acting in a political satire in which his character accidentally becomes Ukrainian president. It would now seem that dreams do became realities, or shall we say this is a good example that art is life.

Zelensky has no political experience as seen in his campaigns which mainly focused on how he is different from other candidates rather than on any concrete policy plans.
